lyrics

i was fishing for my diamond ring when i found you instead
just a stranger from a foreign spring before the zombies broke in
you took my hand and you drove me to the right of passage
but when i closed my eyes you just shook my hand and walked away

and i awoke from a sleepless casket to the sound of gunfire
down below on the rio grande i saw people floating by
now i recalled revelations of a thousand countries
but in the dying dream i could only hear you sweetly sigh

now there were
so many scared ugly people hiding in the railyards,
so many scared ugly people running away,
so many scared ugly people mailing them postcards,
but me i just wanted to rest in peace that day

i resigned to my feral state, where i ate the scales off of snakeskin
that was when i found the city gate, and the lock was broken
for a second there i swear i was on some grand vacation
but when i found your place i was greeted by a pair of holes

i screamed your name from the old gazebo to some flies of town square
i ran down to the stream that night and i saw you dancing there
you told me i did great, you said nice job, congratulations
but when i jumped to your embrace all i felt were your rushing waves

and i admit so many times i wanted to bite you
and i admit so many times i cried
and i admit for so long i've been trying to find you
but only now i've been wondering why

have you ever found peace of mind from a rock in motion?
have you ever felt an honest breath from a fire approaching?
i tried to fly upstream but the current's always flyin' faster
so when i changed my wing i was captain of the breathing sea

i'll roll down this rio grande until i find mine ocean
i know it's hard, so hard to judge, but i know i'm getting close
you see, yesterday i found a seashell in the river basin
and from its spirally depths i could almost hear my diamond ring

so so long to all you scared ugly people
so long to mr. and mrs. i wanna quit and rot away
so long to everyone who thinks that they're a nomad and
say hello to mr. going to walk this rain
